Primary Purpose:

Responsible for providing a program of gross and fine motor activities, rhythmic activities, gymnastics, integrated academic activities, social development, physical activities developing physical fitness and/or an awareness of physical fitness, reinforcement of life skills, and of health and safety, which are developmentally appropriate for ages Pre-K through 5th grade. This program is inclusive of the physically and emotionally challenged.

Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment. Educational Aide Certification. Continuing Education: Must complete 15 hours of "professional growth" annually, which is provided and/or approved by the SBISD Health Administrator. Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work and communicate with children and adults. Fluent in English (speaking and writing); bilingual preferred. Ability to perform indoor and outdoor activities. Ability to perform and demonstrate activities that involve a variety of materials and equipment and/or activities that are physically active. Experience:

Acceptable experience with young children.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:

Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures. Plan cooperatively and on a regular basis with the Health Fitness Specialist. Student Management:

Create and maintain a suitable environment for all students in Pre-K through 5th grade, including the physically and emotionally challenged. Help supervise, organize and maintain a system of class management. Assist children in participating in a variety of activities. Cooperatively plan for and assist children in participating in a variety of activities and provide independent instruction. Other:

Maintain records and perform clerical duties related to health fitness classes. Maintain a physically and emotionally safe indoor and outdoor environment. Prescribe and implement assessment. Order materials/supplies and prepare and organize materials and equipment daily. Perform other duties as assigned.

Personal computer and various office equipment.

Mental Demands:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands:

Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer. Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
