Overview

Fiber Optic Network Engineer (Temporary) up to three (3) years, full-time, benefited. In-office or in-field schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The full salary range is stated by the City. This position involves planning, developing, and managing the Citys fiber optic communication infrastructure networks and supporting city operations with fiber network design, maintenance, and administration. Plan, develop, and manage the Citys fiber optic infrastructure networks, including preparing and reviewing plans, project proposals, contracts, and technical specifications Manage capital improvement projects, coordinate permitting activities, work with consultants, and administer procurement and contracting processes Contribute to network planning and support field personnel with maintenance, replacement, and renewal of fiber optic infrastructure Collaborate with City staff, consultants, regulatory agencies, engineers, developers, utility providers, boards and commissions, and contractors Manage service agreements and leases related to the Citys fiber optic assets Collaborate with City utility operators and other City staff on integration, installation, and use of the fiber optic network to support city operations, SCADA, radio communications, traffic, and other public services Maintain comprehensive diagrams and maps of the Citys fiber infrastructure Provide documentation and as-constructed drawings using design and database software Monitor inventory and ensure compliance with policies, standards, and enterprise technology direction Support daily fiber network operations and long-term planning with IT staff Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field Minimum of four (4) years of direct experience in fiber optic infrastructure construction and maintenance Two (2) years of experience in database management and asset inventory tracking for fiber optic infrastructure or similar Familiarity with construction best practices for fiber builds; solid understanding of industry-standard protocols and equipment Proven experience in fiber optics installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance Valid drivers license and safe driving record Ability to pass FBI CJIS background check and fingerprinting Preferred: two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience and FOA or equivalent certification Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 75 pounds Work in confined spaces (handholes, manholes, vaults) and at heights (ladders, towers, poles) Occasional exposure to various weather conditions Ability to operate testing and splicing equipment and use keyboard/design software for extended periods Working Conditions

The role is a hybrid of office-based and field-based responsibilities. Office work includes designing network layouts, documenting, performing analyses, and coordinating with cross-functional teams. Field work includes on-site inspections, fiber splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and supervising installations. Travel to various locations may be required. Other Information
