Job Description A leading provider of construction building materials in the United States is currently seeking an Excavator Operator for immediate employment at the Hayfield Quarry in Fredericksburg, VA. The successful candidate will be tasked with operating and configuring various types of equipment, ensuring optimal machine performance, overseeing maintenance, and conducting regular quality checks.

In this role, you will safely and efficiently operate excavators for tasks such as digging trenches and foundations, as well as loading and unloading materials like soil and debris. Routine inspections and maintenance of the excavator will be essential to maintain its functionality. Collaboration with site supervisors and crew members will be necessary to coordinate excavation activities, while adherence to site plans and safety guidelines will ensure compliance with project specifications. Additionally, you will monitor excavation sites for hazards, report any safety issues or equipment malfunctions, assist in backfilling and grading post-excavation, and maintain accurate logs of work performed, including operational hours and maintenance activities.

Requirements

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Field of Study Preferred: N/A

Required Work Experience: Minimum 2 years experience

Travel Requirements:

Proven experience operating excavators and other heavy equipment on construction or excavation sites.

Strong understanding of excavation safety procedures and OSHA compliance standards.

Safely maneuver around underground utilities and structures to avoid damage during digging operations.

Use specialized excavator attachments (e.g., hydraulic breakers, thumbs, or augers) for diverse site needs.

Assist with trench shoring and proper slope cutting to maintain safe excavation conditions.

Communicate with spotters and ground crews using hand signals or radios to coordinate movement.

Support site cleanup by loading materials into dump trucks and removing excess debris post-excavation.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes.

Basic mechanical knowledge for performing routine equipment inspections and minor repairs.

Physical stamina and strength to work in demanding outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.

Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness for precise equipment operation.

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
