Food Service Worker

This position is located in the Food and Beverage Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose of this position is to perform various duties to facilitate food preparation; food service, maintain cooking and serving equipment and areas in a clean and orderly condition. Responsibilities include setting up buffet/food lines, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages. The incumbent may serve food by placing portions of food on customer's plates, brews coffee, assembles and tosses fresh fruit or green salads, portions other food items into standard serving sizes, and makes sandwiches using prepared ingredients. The position also involves cleaning and maintaining food service areas, such as cleaning ceilings and transoms, exhaust hoods, spaces under and behind kitchen equipment, washing floors and walls with powered cleaning equipment, cleaning walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and sanitizing garbage rooms. Additionally, the incumbent may unload food from delivery trucks, move heavy garbage cans, assist in taking inventory, and adhere to all safety and sanitation requirements. Requirements include the ability to perform tasks involving several procedures, knowledge of food handling techniques and portion control, ability to perform basic arithmetic, ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and a working knowledge or ability to learn sanitation standards. The incumbent must be able to pass food service screening and training. Additional information includes adherence to drug-free federal workplace policies and background checks for individuals in child care services programs. Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
