This position provides executive leadership in research administration, budget and resource planning, internal funding programs, faculty support, and continuous improvement. The AVP-R represents the VPR in internal and external settings, leads division-wide initiatives, and ensures excellence in communications, faculty engagement, and operational performance.Responsibilities: STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP (SUPPORTING AND REPRESENTING THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR RESEARCH):Serves as a member of the Division of Research and Innovation's leadership team and leads implementation of its strategic plan and key performance goals across the functional areas.Supports the Vice President on strategic and operational issues affecting the research division and university-wide research efforts.Represents the Vice President, division, and university in internal and external meetings, initiatives, and partnerships, and assumes executive responsibilities in the VPR's absence.Facilitates high-impact, cross-unit strategic projects and ensures alignment with university priorities and research growth objectives.Monitors and interprets federal and state policy developments and trends in research funding, compliance, and administration; supports the VPR on institutional correspondence and reporting.FINANCIAL AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT:Oversees strategic planning, execution, and financial oversight of the division's internal research funding programs, core facilities, centers, and special initiatives, in consultation with the Vice President.Supervises and coordinates administrative operations related to division-wide staffing needs, professional development, recruitment, training, and organizational well-being.Supervises and coordinates the planning and execution of division-sponsored events (e.g., research week, faculty recognition events, symposia), ensuring alignment with divisional goals and stakeholder engagement.Supervises and coordinates the development and implementation of research communications and marketing strategies that elevate the university's research profile and engage internal and external audiences.FACULTY SUPPORT AND RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT:Supervises and collaborates with colleges, departments, centers, and faculty to support research development and lead VPR initiatives for faculty success in securing external funding.Leads the research development area in identification and dissemination of strategic funding opportunities and supports the preparation of large, complex, and strategic proposals.Leads the implementation of key VPR initiatives, including research conferences that expand interdisciplinary, collaborative, and mission-aligned research activity.Leads the efforts to expand and promote student research opportunities, including undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral research engagement initiatives.Enhances services and tools provided to researchers across all stages of the research lifecycle, from external partnerships, proposal development to post-award support by collaborating with Assistant Vice President and Executive Directors.ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, COMPLIANCE AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:Drives division-wide continuous improvement efforts, including the development of performance metrics, process assessments, and operational innovations.Leads efforts to modernize research administration systems, standardize workflows, and improve service delivery across units.Provides leadership in staff training, career development, and succession planning to support a high-performance, service-oriented research administration team.Coordinates internal initiatives to assess and strengthen operational readiness and responsiveness across the division.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:Master's degree in a relevant field required;7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in research administration and leadership, preferably in a higher education or research-intensive environment.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations governing sponsored programs, research compliance, and higher education finance.Preferred Qualifications:Terminal degree preferred.Proven leadership in strategic planning, team management, and complex problem-solving.Exceptional communication, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.Commitment to innovation, and excellence in research and service.Job Posting Close Date: 09/30/2025Required Attachments: Please attach all required documents listed below in the attachment box labeled as either "Resume/CV or Resume/Cover Letter" on the application.
