Transportation Assistant

SYLACAUGA CITY SCHOOLS POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Transportation Assistant Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities: Keep the bus clean (inside and out) and inspect for damage and safe operation on a daily basis. Pick up students at assigned stops at a consistent time. Follow designated routes as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor. Follow all railroad crossing, speed limit and other regulations. Insure safety of students entering and leaving the bus by closely observing their progress until they are either seated or on roadside or sidewalk. Maintain accurate records of students and bus operating data. Work with administrators on bus discipline. Attend required bus driver schools. Drive for special events as necessary and as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor to insure good bus operations and safety. Deliver relief buses to schools for regular route bus and return regular buses after repairs are accomplished. Service buses by checking/adding oil, fuel, tire pressure, cleaning seats, and interior, washing outside, and ensuring required equipment and forms are on relief buses. Schedule buses between Transportation main shop and repair shops/dealers. Pick up and delivering parts between local suppliers and Transportation's main shop, or road mechanics. Assist mechanics with minor repairs in the field as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Shop Foreman. Check for adequate supplies and advises supervisor of need to replenish. Train new drivers (if applicable). Bookkeeping and secretarial support for Supporting Programs. Maintain payroll records for Transportation and Maintenance. Assist with preparation of budgets and maintain running record of current expenditures and balance. Process requisitions and purchase orders. Submit invoices to the appropriate office for payment. Create and maintain bus routes on an appropriate software program. Provide price quotes for extracurricular trips, post trips and schedule drivers and buses. Invoice the appropriate school office for trips. Maintain open invoice listing for each school. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment. Apply knowledge of School Board policy and procedures. Performs other related tasks as assigned by Supervisor. Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a valid Alabama Driver's License, and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement, and an Alabama School Bus Driver Certificate. Must be willing to pick up and deliver school children on school bus route when assigned. Must pass insurability investigation by the insurance company, into private and business driving record within any five-year time frame. Applicant selected for this position must complete criminal background check (fingerprinting) and results of a drug-screening test. Strong communication, public relations and organizational skills. Bookkeeping experience. Work Year: 240 Days/8 hrs. per day.
