Introduction

Client is looking to fill a Senior Renewable Energy Engineer in a Consultancy environment. Based in Cape Town, with occasional travel across Africa. This would be a permanent position withavailable flexi-hours. Senior-level role focused on solar and/or wind energy projects. A mix of Technical Due Diligence (TDD) and Owners Engineer (OE) responsibilities. Central figure in project execution, acting as a technical advisor to clients and stakeholders. Duties & Responsibilities

Lead technical due diligence (TDD) for solar and wind projects, including risk assessment of CAPEX, OPEX, and revenues

Advise clients through financial close and coordinate with legal, financial, and insurance advisors

Review and negotiate key contracts (EPC, O&M, PPA, WTG supply)

Conduct feasibility studies with technical and economic analysis

Monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with design and industry standards

Manage EPC/O&M tender processes and support contract negotiations

Oversee commissioning and acceptance testing, resolving technical issues

Support operational phases to optimize performance and ensure asset integrity

Review permits, designs, and resource assessments for compliance and accuracy

Propose risk mitigation strategies across project lifecycles

Manage teams and deliverables, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget alignment

Communicate effectively with stakeholders and support short-term travel across Africa

Desired Experience & Qualification

Masters degree in Engineering or equivalent, with specialization in renewable energy (solar and/or wind)

Minimum of 5 years' experience in renewable energy, with at least 35 years in consultancy roles

Proven experience as a Lenders Technical Advisor (LTA) and/or Owners Engineer (OE)

Strong knowledge of solar PV and wind power technologies and project lifecycles

Experience with technical due diligence across CAPEX, OPEX, and revenue forecasts

Familiarity with key contracts: EPC, O&M, PPA, WTG supply agreements

Demonstrated ability to lead feasibility studies, design reviews, and risk assessments

Hands-on experience in construction monitoring, site inspections, and commissioning

Skilled in identifying and addressing technical issues during project execution and handover

Proficient in technical software/tools used in renewable energy project analysis

Strong project management skills, able to handle multiple complex projects concurrently

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities

High level of organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills

Willingness to travel across Africa for short-term assignments

Fluent in English (spoken and written); French and/or Portuguese is a plus
