Senior Avionics Technician

Tradewind Aviation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Avionics Technician to join our team at our Waterbury/Oxford, CT (OXC) base. This full-time position is ideal for an experienced technician ready to take a leadership role in a fast-paced environment. The individual will be responsible for performing advanced avionics troubleshooting, repairs, and installations on company and customer aircraft / Lead avionics projects and mentor junior technicians / Support a diverse fleet that includes both modern turbine aircraft and antique general aviation aircraft / Ensure compliance with all FAA regulations and company procedures. Extensive experience with Honeywell Apex systems and Garmin avionics products is required. Technical Duties

Troubleshoot, repair, and install complex avionics systems: GPS, NAV/COM, ADS-B, autopilot, SATCOM, EFIS, etc. Perform avionics tasks during scheduled inspections under Part 135 and Part 145. Lead major installations, modifications, and STC upgrades per FAA and manufacturer data. Use specialized tools and test equipment (multimeters, BITE testers) for system diagnostics. Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering data. Regulatory Compliance

Ensure work is completed per FAA regulations, Part 135 ops specs, and 145 Repair Station Manual. Accurately complete work orders, logbook entries, and return-to-service documentation. Comply with tool control, calibration, and safety procedures. Participate in internal audits, FAA inspections, and corrective action programs. Leadership & Mentorship

Provide guidance, training, and oversight to junior avionics technicians. Review and approve work performed by others if authorized. Lead troubleshooting efforts during AOG events and ensure a quick return to service. Operational Support

Interface with flight crews, dispatch, and Maintenance Control regarding discrepancies and MEL items. Participate in AOG support, troubleshooting, and field maintenance as required. Ensure readiness of avionics systems for operational missions and assist in pre/post-flight support when necessary. Qualifications

FAA A&P license (5+ Years of experience preferred) Valid US Driver's License + Clean Driving Record Valid passport without travel restrictions Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen upon contingent job offer Strength to lift 50lbs, and the ability to work in confined spaces Required to maintain an adequate set of tools Has a clear understanding of the navigation, communication, and flight control systems of our fleet Must be willing to travel to various parts of the Caribbean, Southeast, and Northeast for short periods of time Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Prolonged periods of walking and standing Must be able to lift 50 lbs. at times Good manual dexterity & physical strength to handle tools and aircraft parts Ability to work in confined spaces Exposure to loud noise, jet fuel fumes, and hazardous material May work out/indoors in hot or cold weather Benefits
