Overview
Senior Underwriter - AmTrust E&S Insurance Services. This underwriting position is designed for an individual with a minimum of seven (7) years of E&S (excess & surplus lines experience) writing medium to high hazard general liability insurance. Knowledge of ISO coverage forms is essential. Individual account underwriting is required for hazard analysis, rating, pricing, and form selection. In addition, knowledge of industry standard company forms is required to properly underwrite risk.
With this opportunity, you will underwrite and manage a portfolio of hard to place liability risks with tougher exposures considered unique or challenging in accordance with AmTrust E&S guidelines, strategy, and profitability standards. The person in this position is responsible for new business development, risk analysis and assessment, coverage evaluation, pricing, and contract negotiation in order to maintain and develop a profitable portfolio of non-admitted primary and excess liability risks.
The salary range for this role is $100-120K, this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Illinois. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
Responsibilities
Quickly and effectively make underwriting decisions based on review and analysis of renewal policy. Ensure policy characteristics are based on company pricing and underwriting guidelines.
Collaborate closely with other team members, sales, and management as needed to assess risks and retain business.
Develop and maintain strong agency relationships and work closely with Underwriters, Sales, and Management to implement agency plans and share accountability in meeting territory goals.
Provide support and coaching to the underwriting team and leadership on multiple products available to the team to quickly and effectively make risk decisions.
Occasionally participate in industry events and travel to meet with agencies to support relationships as needed.
Maintain strong product line and industry expertise and stay abreast of changes in markets.
Other tasks, responsibilities, and projects as needed.
Keeps current with market trends and demands.
Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of Liability underwriting experience preferred; high-hazard, complex risks, or E&S underwriting experience highly desired with a focus on construction, products liability, hospitality, and distressed premises risks.
BA / BS degree strongly preferred, or equivalent in experience.
CPCU or other related Insurance Designation(s) preferred.
Knowledge of commercial Excess and Surplus lines risk, classification, pricing, and coverage options with adherence to applicable statutory compliance issues and corporate guidelines.
Able to understand and execute to strategic priorities including pricing strategy, agent strategy, rate strategy, underwriting appetite, limit management, and mix of business.
Strong knowledge of the E & S external market and demonstrated marketing and business development experience within the wholesale distribution channel.
