THE ELIGIBILITY LIST WILL BE VALID FOR 6 MONTHS Under the supervision of the site administrator or designee, provides supervision to students during periods of morning drop-off, recess, lunch, and end-of-day release; monitors parking areas and guides traffic in the parking lot. Ensures students comply with the health and safety regulations adopted by the District and the respective school site. Distinguishing characteristics between related classes: Positions allocated to the Campus Safety Assistant-Elementary are responsible for campus supervision in lunch and playground areas on an elementary school campus, while positions allocated to the Campus Safety Assistant-Secondary are primarily responsible for student safety at a middle or high school campus. Responsibilities include: Patrol and monitor an assigned district school campus area and/or property to maintain order, safety, and security; monitor walkways, lunch areas, restrooms, parking lots, and play fields; supervise students inside classrooms and multipurpose rooms during non-instructional time or as assigned. Assist students in the cafeteria with meals, help younger students with lunch trays, milk, and condiments, and ensure appropriate eating manners. Assist in cleaning up lunch areas, including spills, trash disposal, and wiping tables. Assist in conflict resolution following established guidelines; intervene as necessary; advise students of consequences of rule violations. Take action to prevent or break up fights and disturbances; escort students to the office for disciplinary action as necessary. Issue equipment approved for outdoor lunch activities; maintain order during games and play activities. Evaluate student injuries, determine course of action, perform minor first aid, and complete required paperwork in compliance with district policies. Enforce school and district rules, regulations, and policies for safety and security; report unusual activities or unauthorized persons on campus. Monitor campus for unauthorized personnel; check visitor passes and direct/escort visitors to the administration office. Encourage courtesy among students; report unusual behavior or problems; observe and report safety hazards; prevent unsafe activities. Identify, report, and correct safety hazards. Monitor parking lots for proper procedures and traffic flow; open and secure gates. Assist with crowd control at school events. Assist in custodial duties, such as wiping tables and benches. Perform related duties as assigned. Education/Experience Any combination of education and experience that enables meeting minimum qualifications and performing essential functions will be qualifying. Experience working with school-aged children is highly desirable. First aid and CPR certification is highly desirable. *Alternate variations of education/experience may be considered by Personnel Commission staff as acceptable for participation in the examination process resulting in an eligibility list. Additional work experience beyond minimum requirements may be considered where appropriate. Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements Valid First-Aid and CPR Certificates must be obtained within 6 months of employment and renewed as necessary. Possession of a valid driver's license. Knowledge of : Campus safety and security; Age-appropriate communication strategies; Fundamentals of first aid and response to common student injuries; Conflict resolution techniques among school-age children; District and school policies, rules, and procedures; Health and safety regulations, including basic first aid, CPR, AED, and blood-borne pathogens. Ability to : Understand and follow oral and written directions; Be courteous and respectful; Exercise good judgment, integrity, and resourcefulness; Communicate and cooperate effectively with others, including students; Work outdoors in all weather conditions; Diffuse confrontations and discourage violence and vandalism; Respond appropriately to emergency procedures.
