Baker (Cook 1)

The Baker (Cook 1) is responsible for preparing high-quality bread and pastry items in accordance with production schedules, banquet event orders, and daily service needs. This role upholds consistent quality standards, ensures a safe and sanitary work environment, and contributes creatively to menu development while efficiently managing the bakery station. What you will do: Prepare bread, pastries, and specialty baked goods following recipes, portion, and presentation standards. Maintain mise en place and set up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. Monitor inventory, control waste, and assist with ordering supplies. Operate, maintain, and clean kitchen equipment (e.g., ovens, mixers, fryers, slicers, grills). Label, date, and store food items properly; rotate stock to ensure freshness. Contribute to menu development and create baked goods for special events and dietary needs. Train, mentor, and support junior pastry staff. Work harmoniously with co-workers and supervisors in compliance with company standards. What you bring: Education & Experience High school diploma, culinary school, or equivalent experience. 35 years of professional pastry and baking experience. Advanced culinary/pastry knowledge expected; on-the-job learning also required. Skills & Abilities Strong baking and pastry techniques with attention to taste, quality, and presentation. Proficient in knife skills and multitasking. Ability to manage production independently and as part of a team. Skilled in operating and maintaining standard bakery/kitchen equipment. Ability to maintain brand standards and food cost control. A passion for pastry and the willingness to try new creative recipes and techniques. Physical Requirements Stand/walk for full shifts; frequent bending, squatting, and reaching. Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.; carry food supplies short distances. Frequent repetitive motions (stirring, chopping, mixing). Work near ovens, hot surfaces, steam, and cleaning chemicals. Ability to communicate clearly, read recipes, and follow procedures. Must obtain required food handling/sanitation certifications.
