DescriptionFollow general direction and perform other duties as assigned by the Site DirectorEnsure the individual needs of the children are met within the program guidelines.Utilize sound judgment and discretionary skills in accordance with the Gateway Region YMCA policies.Maintain positive relationships with many diverse people, including staff, parents, volunteers and program site administration and demonstrate strong public relation skills.Ensure YMCA policies and guidelines are followed at all times.Maintain an environment that ensures children's safety and well-being.Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.May serve as support staff based on needs of program participants, ensuring approved levels of support, assistance, and record keeping.Ensure child-receiving support is fully included in all site activities, as much as is reasonable to expect, based upon the level of documented ability.Provide children opportunities to build self-help and independence skills.Ensure zero tolerance for abuse and actively participate in the protection of youth and teens.Performs all other duties assigned.Group Leader - 18 years old +Ensure individual needs of campers are met and supportedResponsible for an assigned group of 16 childrenDevelop, prepare and implement curriculum and special events.Responsible for ensuring diverse program experiences for campers each dayActively participate in all trainings, program activities, and special eventsReview and understand enrollment information and individual needsEnsure safety is priority in all aspects of the programProvide opportunities to build self-help and independence skillsAssist and substitute as needed in any child care area with flexibility and positive attitudeDemonstrate Teamwork through personal interaction amongst all staffMaintain confidentiality and accurately prepare and provide proper records, documentation and filesCommunicate professionally and accurately with YMCA staff, participants and families.Keep current on new program activities or special events to assist and enhance programsGroup Leader - 16 & 17 years oldEnsure individual needs of children are met and supportedResponsible for an assigned group of 16 children within view at all times of 18+ Group Leader and or Site DirectorDevelop, prepare and implement curriculum and special events.Responsible for ensuring diverse program experiences for children each day.Actively participate in all training, program activities, and special events.Will not utilize mechanical tools, equipment or laddersReview and understand enrollment information and individual needsEnsure safety is priority in all aspects of the programProvide opportunities to build self-help and independence skillsAssist and substitute as needed in any child care role or area with flexibility and positive attitudeDemonstrate Teamwork through personal interaction amongst all staffMaintain confidentiality and accurately prepare and provide proper records, documentation and filesCommunicate professionally and accurately with YMCA staff, participants and families.Keep current on new program activities or special events to assist and enhance programsThe YMCA Welcomes a Diverse WorkforceEqual Opportunity Employer M/F/D/VThe Gateway Region YMCA strictly follows a zero tolerance policy regarding child abuse.RequirementsAt least 1 year of experience working with childrenAbility to relate to children, parents, staff members and volunteersFollow directions, have strong leadership skills and be self-motivatedFull Compensation Package (when applicable):403(b) Retirement SavingsRetirement fund of 12% per pay period after completing 1,000 hours of service during any two 12-month period.
