Description Under the supervision of the Douglass Branch Manager, the Douglass Branch Page performs a variety of tasks related to the circulation and shelving of library materials and provides support to customers. Duties include checking out materials to customers, registering customers for library cards, answering questions, assisting users with the library catalog, shelving library materials, maintaining the collection in order on the shelves, pulling requests to fill customer holds, and assisting customers with the public access computers and the copier. Schedule is as follows: Monday 10-1:30pm Tuesday 10-1:30pm Wednesday 10-1:30pm Thursday off Friday 10-4:30pm With every third Friday off to work Saturday 10-4:30pm Open until filled. Support customers during the checkout process at the desk and self-checkout station Create or renew accounts, answer customer questions, renew or request materials, and collect fees in person using the integrated library system Carry out circulation processes and procedures (check-in/check-out materials, library/computer cards, pull RPLs) Retrieve, inspect, check-in, and organize materials from internal and external book drops and transit bags Place returned materials on shelves in proper order, "read" the shelves to keep all materials in proper order, and locate requested items for processing Provide all levels of information services to the public in person and by phone Provide computer assistance to customers Assist staff with programming Ensure the collections are maintained for good physical condition Contact customers in person, by phone or by email for damaged materials or missing items (DVD, CD, pamphlet, etc.) Maintain security at the Branch by working with customers to correct any inappropriate behavior and writing incident reports when necessary Engage with customers and provide guidance or redirection when needed; ensuring customers continue to have a successful library experience Participates in departmental and library-wide training and activities, including technology and safety training Provides excellent internal and external customer service Other duties as assigned Requirements

Ability to alphabetize and learn the collection order and layout Ability to follow direction and work independently Ability to work cooperatively with others as a team Good vision and hearing to engage effectively with customers Ability to maintain a varied schedule, including day, evening, and weekend rotations Manual dexterity to operate computer and phone equipment Familiarity with workplace productivity software, including skills in Microsoft Office Suite Ability to issue guidance and ensure compliance with the Library's Rules of Conduct and policies Physical ability to handle and lift library materials weighing approximately 40 pounds to setup for events and or to push fully loaded carts of library materials Satisfactory pre-employment background check Acceptable Experience and Training

High School Diploma or GED required Customer Service experience preferred Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is helpful Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Vacation Leave Accrual

1.5385 hours per bi-weekly pay period (45 hours, or five days per year)

Bereavement Leave Paid leave will be given for the loss of an immediate family member (as defined in our Staff Handbook) for up to five consecutive days, including the day of the funeral. To be eligible for the prorated bereavement leave, the employee must give reasonable notice to his/her department manager and specify the time and date when the employee will return to work. Leave will be paid only for the scheduled work time lost and will not count toward extra or overtime hours.

Holidays The Library is closed on the following nine (9) days: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve Day, and Christmas Day. With the exception of Easter Sunday, all of these days are paid holidays, pro-rated for 19- hour and under employees at three (3) hours for each holiday. The Library will remain open for Juneteenth and staff members will receive a floating holiday.

Employee Assistance Program The Library provides a confidential Employee Assistance Program. The cost of this service is paid entirely by the Library. Employees or their family members may arrange for counseling sessions on any area of concern, personal or professional.

Deferred Compensation Plans Library employees are offered the opportunity to invest in a 457 Deferred Compensation Retirement plan. 01
