8N is a 28-bed med/surg unit with a renal focus; we see a wide variety of patients who are in acute and chronic renal failure requiring hemodialysis and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis. This unit gives you the opportunity to work with various disciplines including Nephrologist, social workers, case managers, and dieticians to develop critical thinking skills as well as clinical skill development. The unit has a close-knit group of nurses resulting in great teamwork. There are 8 telemetry monitored beds in the unit to monitor the renal patient with cardiac complications. Assists licensed nursing staff in providing direct patient care and helps in the environmental maintenance of the nursing unit under the direction of the Registered Nurse and within the scope of defined practice. Provides for personal care and safety needs of patients promptly under the supervision of licensed nursing staff including specific procedures and patient testing addressed in the patient plan of care. Maintains an orderly unit environment with sufficient supplies and equipment in order to facilitate staff performance of patient care.
