The Operational Training Supervisor leads operator training, credentialing, and field coaching to ensure safe, reliable, and customer-focused transit service. This role designs and delivers new-hire and recurrent training, conducts route sign-offs and performance checks, supports accident/incident response and retraining, and maintains full compliance with federal, state, local, and company policies. The Supervisor partners closely with Dispatch, Safety, Maintenance, and HR, and serves as a visible leader in the field and in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
Training Leadership
Plan, deliver, and evaluate new-hire operator training (classroom, yard, and road). Lead recurrent, remedial, and return-to-duty training; develop individualized performance improvement plans. Conduct behind-the-wheel evaluations, road tests, and route sign-offs; certify operator readiness. Maintain training calendar, rosters, and complete, auditable training records.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to DOT/FTA, FMCSA, ADA, OSHA, State of California, and local regulations. Support post-incident coaching, root-cause analysis, and corrective action training. Perform random ride-checks, road observations, and PPE/compliance audits; document findings.
Operational Support
Provide on-street supervision during peak periods, service disruptions, special events, and detours. Partner with Dispatch on operator sign-ups, route coverage, and service quality metrics. Coordinate with Maintenance to address equipment-related training needs.
People Development & Culture
Coach operators on professional conduct, customer care, conflict de-escalation, and service recovery. Mentor Trainers/Driver Instructors and support their development. Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and safety-first culture aligned with RATP Dev USA values.
Qualifications Required
2+ years in transit operations, training, road supervision, or closely related role. Demonstrated experience conducting classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. Working knowledge of DOT/FTA compliance, ADA service requirements, and defensive driving principles. Strong communication, documentation, and coaching skills; proficient with Microsoft 365/Google Workspace. Ability to work early/late hours and weekends; ability to be on-call. Valid California drivers license and clean record; ability to obtain and maintain CDL B with Passenger (P) and Air Brake endorsements.
Preferred
Current CDL B (P/Air) and Trainer/Instructor credentials. Prior experience in a unionized environment and/or City/County transit contract setting. Certifications such as Smith System, CPR/First Aid, or Transit Safety & Security (TSSP).
