Summary:
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing project and/or task management and technical support primarily for Barr's mining clients, as well as other clients in markets such as heavy industry and power generation. Responsibilities include leading technical analyses related to water balance modeling, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, engineering studies, interacting with, coordinating, and potentially leading multidisciplinary project teams, mentoring junior staff, advising clients on mine-water management strategies through alternatives analyses, providing environmental consulting services, writing technical reports, and performing business development through conference presentations and proposals. Work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments, such as site visits.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
10 years of related work experience focusing on mining and mine water management
Professional Engineer (PE) certification or eligibility for immediate certification
Experience with hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality methods; modeling tools; and software such as GoldSim, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XPSWMM/PCSWMM, HSPF, HydroCAD, MS Excel, or the MIKE Suite
Familiarity with publicly available data sets supporting hydrologic analyses, e.g., USGS gage data in the USA, hydrometric stations in Canada, climate data from NWS, Environment Canada, or other gages
Experience advising clients on mine water management strategies and conducting alternatives analysis
Skills in probabilistic analysis, uncertainty analyses, and Monte Carlo simulations for risk assessments
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Proven project management skills, including quality management
Willingness to work cooperatively in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative
Flexible working style to meet deadlines and client needs
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
More than 10 years of relevant experience at a consulting engineering, mining, or industrial site
Master's or PhD in civil or environmental engineering
Strong client relationships and ability to develop ongoing client service
Experience with water resources engineering supporting permitting and compliance
Experience with mine closure and reclamation planning, including community involvement
Expertise in data analysis, visualization, hydraulic structure design, risk-informed decision making, climate change analysis, water recovery and reuse, cost-benefit assessments, or due diligence services for water management projects
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered, involving split time between a Barr office and a home office. Eligible office locations include Denver, CO; Duluth, Hibbing, or Minneapolis, MN; Bismarck, ND; or Salt Lake City, UT.
Compensation:
The base salary range is $110,000-$160,000 per year. This position is exempt under FLSA. Compensation varies based on experience, education, skills, and other factors. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. Barr distributes profits to employees via bonuses and ESOP.
