Staff Engineer, Restraints at Faraday Future (FF) a California-based mobility company focused on user-centric, technology-first vehicles. Faraday X (FX) is FFs initiative to promote advanced intelligent electric vehicles in the U.S. market through partnerships and an open-source approach. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Staff Engineer, Restraints to lead the design, development, and testing of advanced restraint systems, including airbags, seat belts, and other occupant protection technologies. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in automotive safety systems, a strong technical background, and a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment. As a Staff Engineer, you will mentor junior engineers, drive cross-functional collaboration, and play a key role in shaping the future of vehicle safety. Responsibilities
Design and Development: Lead the design and development of restraint systems (e.g., airbags, seat belts, pretensioners) to meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements. Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance to engineering teams, ensuring robust and innovative solutions for occupant protection. Simulation and Analysis: Work with the restraints supplier to provide correlated CAE component models of the airbags and seatbelts to the FX CAE team. Testing and Validation: Support physical testing, including sled tests, crash tests, and component-level testing, to validate system performance against FMVSS, NCAP, and other global safety standards. Ensure that the restraints supplier has a robust DV & PV test plan for part validation. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with vehicle integration, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of restraint systems into vehicle platforms. Innovation: Drive R&D of next-generation restraint technologies, such as adaptive restraints or integrated safety systems. Mentorship: Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning. Project Management: Lead projects from concept to production, managing timelines, budgets, and deliverables while ensuring alignment with company objectives. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with global safety regulations and standards, including FMVSS, Euro NCAP, IIHS, and others. Documentation: Prepare detailed technical reports, design documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field; Master's or Ph.D. preferred. 8+ years of experience in automotive engineering, with at least 5 years focused on restraint systems (airbags, seat belts, etc.). Proven experience leading complex engineering projects from concept to production. Hands-on experience with supporting crash testing, simulation tools (e.g., LS-DYNA, MADYMO), and CAE analysis. Expertise in restraint system design, including airbags, seat belts, pretensioners, and load limiters. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) for component design. Strong knowledge of vehicle crash dynamics and occupant kinematics. Familiarity with automotive safety standards (FMVSS, NCAP, Euro NCAP, IIHS). Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong leadership and mentorship abilities. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with advanced materials or smart restraint systems. Knowledge of autonomous vehicle safety requirements. Patent contributions or publications in automotive safety. Salary
Annual Salary Range: $130K - $160K DOE, plus benefits and incentive plans Perks + Benefits
