Substation Apprentice
*This position may be filled as a Substation Apprentice 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Year based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.* *The selected candidate must live within or be willing to relocate within 45 miles of the assigned service area.* *This position does not offer relocation benefits.* *The job description below is that of a Substation Apprentice 1st Year and role, duties, responsibilities, and requirements increase with the job-level.* Job Summary/Purpose:
Under close or directive supervision, performs any work required for the construction, installation, removal, testing, and/or maintenance of all types of structures, conductors, and other devices utilized in substations, switching stations, generating plants, voltage regulator stations, and transformer banks employed in the production, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy. Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Installing, connecting, testing, removing, maintaining or repairing; metering equipment, remote control and indication equipment, switchboards, rectifies, batteries, transformers, voltage regulators, reactors, circuit breakers, disconnecting switches, instruments, relays, lightning arresters, lighting systems, control cables, and other allied equipment Participating in safety meetings and activities and carrying out all approved safety and good housekeeping practices Driving a truck and operating associated equipment such as winch, hydraulic boom, various hydraulically operated tools, etc. Under the direct supervision of a Sr. SC&M Journeyman or SC&M Journeyman, planning and performing switching operations associated with the routine maintenance of substation equipment Through applying himself on the job and taking outside study courses, qualify him to fill a SC&M Journeyman classification Performing other related or less skilled work as directed Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent Must have basic knowledge of electricity Must possess the mental aptitude and physical dexterity to learn such skills as: electrical welding; acetylene, welding, cutting, and brazing; bending and shaping electrical bus, conduit, and EMT; soldering electrical wiring, testing, and troubleshooting techniques; reading and interpreting physical and electrical diagrams, one-line diagrams, and operating and maintenance instructions; removing, installing, and erecting all types of substation equipment, painting, etc. Have a basic knowledge of the names, use, and care of tools ordinarily used in mechanical and electrical construction and maintenance work Be familiar with the Company's safety rules, established methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid Be able to qualify for an A Class Commercial operator's license Company Testing: Successful completion of the EEI CAST test Candidates selected to take the CAST Test will be invited via email. ***MONITOR YOUR SPAM/JUNK EMAIL FOLDER***
