JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Chief Operator, performs work maintaining the City's reclaimed water and wastewater system customer activities and the inspection programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Orientates new and existing customers to the city's rules and requirements for reclaimed water and orientates new and existing customers to the city's rules and ordinances concerning the wastewater pretreatment program, grease traps, and wastewater collection system. Inspects new irrigation and non-irrigation systems and reuses service line connections whenever a new customer is connected. Collects samples from the reclaimed water distribution system. Monitors new main construction activities and monitors irrigation systems on city properties to achieve maximum benefits of reclaimed water disposal. Remains current with developments of the reuse system and updates paperwork, forms, etc. as needed. Monitors compliance with pretreatment program. Collects samples of wastewater and grease traps as required, inspects new and existing grease trap installations and sewer connections, inspects existing grease traps, and maintains inspection program and associated records. Re-inspects wastewater collection and reclaimed water systems. Maintains inventory of necessary supplies. Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency. Performs other related job duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the current rules, regulations and ordinances pertaining to wastewater reuse, reclaimed water, wastewater treatment, wastewater collection system operation, grease traps, and the City's pretreatment program. Knowledge of irrigation systems and components, wastewater treatment and water quality, backflow prevention and cross-connection control, and functions of pumps and piping. Skill in making responsible decisions and proper judgments based on factual data, trouble shooting problem areas and setting up new or modifying existing procedures. Skill in the use of a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Office, GIS or CAD and various other office equipment. Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and be highly motivated. Ability to work with the general public to solve problems and answer questions. Ability to plan, schedule, organize records, review data, prepare reports, track information and deal with customer complaints in a professional manner. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience: Associate's degree in related field with three (3) years of experience working with the public, working with irrigation systems, working with wastewater collection systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Special Qualifications: For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire. Must be able to obtain Backflow Prevention Device Technician Certification. A state of Florida Class "C" Wastewater Operator's License is preferred. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is generally light and may require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds frequently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Feeling: Ability to perceive attributes of objects by touch. Dexterity: Primarily with fingers, as in picking, pinching, or typing. Grasping: Applying pressure with the whole hand. Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working with the whole hand. Hearing: Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Kneeling: Ability to frequently bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Lifting: Ability to lift and move objects Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions. Reaching: Ability to frequently extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
