Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Horticulturist in Facility Management.
The Horticulturist will oversee daily operations of the Grounds and Landscape Services team, directly managing the ornamental maintenance crew and coordinating with the turf and irrigation crews to schedule maintenance and renovation activities for grounds and landscaping. The Horticulturist will collaborate with the Assistant Director of Grounds and Landscape Services to develop and implement an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program and Pennington Biomedical.
Major Responsibilities Direct and manage the ornamental maintenance crew, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations. Develop and implement an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program in collaboration with leadership. Oversee procurement, inventory, and preventive maintenance for equipment, materials, and PPE. Collaborate with the turf and irrigation crew to schedule maintenance, repairs, pesticide applications, and equipment needs. Maintain and enhance ornamental landscape beds, monitoring plant health and addressing issues as needed. Assign crew members and provide supplemental support to cross-departmental projects, including indoor plant maintenance. Support departmental operations, renovations, and grounds maintenance while ensuring alignment with best practices. Promote workplace safety by identifying hazards, providing training, and assisting with departmental education initiatives. Required Qualifications
Current Horticulture License issued by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Three (3) years of experience in horticulture, floriculture, agronomy, landscape architecture, or in the general care of crops, shrubs or plants OR a bachelor's degree in a plant science or landscape field of study.
