Administrator of Food Service Department

Summary: Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. Responsibilities include planning, controlling, and evaluating food service functions, such as managing budget resources, establishing standards of sanitation, safety, and security, and evaluating inmate acceptance of food quantity and quality. Work Responsibilities

The Administrator of the Food Service Department supervises food preparation, ensuring compliance with the nutritional needs and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of services provided. The role involves supervising the operation of all equipment and supplies, including a large subsistence storeroom, plus large meat and vegetable coolers. The incumbent must requisition all food supplies and equipment for the department and keep accurate records. Additionally, the position develops detailed estimates and initial requests for the budget required to operate the food service department, and approves the expenditure of department funds. Along with all other correctional institution employees, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining the security of the institution. Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of this specialized experience include: supervising food preparation, ensuring compliance with nutritional needs, evaluating the quality and effectiveness of services provided, evaluating the performance of subordinate employees, initiating appropriate disciplinary action, supervising the operation of all equipment and supplies, and developing detailed estimates and initial requests for the budget and approving expenditures of department funds. A maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution. Initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position requires a one-year probationary period. The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency. Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks. All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm. The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be completed within a 70-minute time period and a passing score of 68 must be obtained.
