Overview
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. This role provides the hospital with an additional source of Registered Nurses for use by all patient care areas within Barnes-Jewish Hospital. It supports staffing needs that accommodate changes in patient census and acuity, and augments staffing during unscheduled ETO when other options are unavailable. The Nurse Manager helps ensure cost-effective utilization of nursing personnel to promote the delivery of quality patient care. Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose Responsible for the operational and clinical management of a designated patient care unit(s) on a 24-hour basis. Oversees a span of control and financial responsibility of: 40 FTEs supervised + $1.5 million in total expenses OR
24 FTEs supervised + $3.5 million in total expenses
Responsibilities
Manages individuals including hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, and conducting professional development plans
Ensures team productivity and alignment with departmental goals
Develops and adheres to staffing, revenue, and/or expense budgets
Responds to business changes that may affect budget goals
Directs the delivery of safe and appropriate patient care based on evidence-based clinical and management practices
Ensures compliance with departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards
Keeps policies and procedures up-to-date and participates in revisions
Promotes customer satisfaction, quality improvement plans, and outcomes
Researches, evaluates, selects, and implements systems to improve operational efficiency
Supports and assists the growth of existing or new business/programs
Minimum Requirements
Education:
Nursing Diploma/Associate's Nursing
Experience:
25 years
Supervisor Experience:
2 years
Licenses & Certifications:
RN

Bachelor's Degree Nursing
