About the Role:
Were seeking a
Senior Electrical Design Engineer
to support the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. In this role, you will lead field investigations, client interviews, and scope development for complex electrical systems associated with Department of Defense (DoD) projects. Youll be responsible for design, evaluation, and modification of electrical systemsfrom conception through implementation. Key Responsibilities: Level I Duties: Conducts field investigations and interviews to define scope and cost for electrical work. Applies standard electrical engineering methods, codes, and procedures on small-scale projects. Designs, modifies, and evaluates components related to electricity generation, transmission, and storage. Coordinates efforts with cross-disciplinary teams, contractors, vendors, and clients. Prepares electrical documentation, specifications, installation guides, and maintenance plans. Selects electrical components based on performance, specs, and reliability. Level II Duties: Leads independent design work on medium-scale projects with unique or complex requirements. Develops conceptual and detailed designs for critical infrastructure systems. Oversees electrical calculations, including load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, arc flash (ETAP), lighting (AGI32), and grounding. Creates and reviews electrical drawings including single-line diagrams, schematics, panel schedules, and cable block diagrams using AutoCAD. Conducts system and equipment sizing per NFPA 70 and industry standards. Develops and evaluates specifications using SpecsIntact and performs technical reviews of supplier proposals. Coordinates with systems engineers and clients for requirements verification and design validation. Mentors junior engineers and collaborates across disciplines in a team-driven environment. Minimum Qualifications: Level I: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). 810 years of relevant experience (or 1214 years without a degree). Level II: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). 1013 years of relevant experience (or 1417 years without a degree). Required Skills and Experience: Proficiency in electrical design for industrial or government facilities (e.g., data centers, utility plants, military bases). Strong understanding of electrical codes (NFPA 70, UFC). Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, ETAP, AGI32, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong knowledge of electrical load modeling, panel/circuit breaker sizing, and cable de-rating. Familiarity with engineering specifications and procurement documents. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: MS in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience supporting DoD or USAF programs. Familiarity with SmartPlant 3D, SpecsIntact, and CSI Masterformat. Experience with ISO-9000 quality assurance programs. Security clearance or ability to obtain one. Cross-disciplinary knowledge in mechanical/process systems related to electrical design.
