Our Fortune 500 client (one of the world's largest beauty companies) in El Segundo, California, is looking for hardworking, motivated talent to join their innovative team. Power BI Specialist/Developer 888 N Douglas St, El Segundo, California, 90245 - Hybrid role 1+ month contract with potential for extension Pay range: $45 - $50/hr We are seeking an experienced Power BI Specialist/Developer skilled in building custom, interactive Power BI dashboards. This project involves migrating an existing Excel-based dashboard to Power BI while enhancing usability and optimizing data visualization. The ideal candidate has a proven track record with Power BI development, strong knowledge of data visualization principles, and expertise in DAX and Power Query. Key Responsibilities:
Requirements Gathering: Work closely with stakeholders to understand the current Excel dashboard functionality, identify pain points, and define enhanced requirements for the Power BI solution. Data Source Integration: Connect Power BI to relevant data sources, ensuring data integrity and efficient query performance. Dashboard Design & Development: Design and implement visually appealing, interactive, user-friendly dashboards and reports that communicate key performance indicators (KPIs) and actionable insights effectively. Testing & Validation: Perform rigorous testing to validate data accuracy and calculations against source Excel dashboards and business requirements. Documentation: Create clear documentation covering data sources, data models, DAX formulas, and dashboard logic to support maintainability and knowledge transfer. Required Skills & Experience:
Proven experience as a Power BI Developer or similar role with a strong portfolio demonstrating dashboard expertise. Expert-level proficiency in Power BI Desktop, including: advanced DAX formula writing and optimization, strong knowledge of Power Query (M language) for complex data transformations, deep understanding of data modeling principles (star schema, snowflake schema), demonstrable experience migrating dashboards or reports from platforms like Excel to Power BI. Exceptional knowledge of data visualization best practices, with the ability to translate complex data into intuitive, actionable reports. Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude, with meticulous attention to detail and data accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders and clear presentation of findings. Ability to work independently and manage timelines effectively in a freelance consulting capacity.
