The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is currently seeking a full-time Financial Specialist, Principal.This is a supervisory position with our Administration Bureau. It is located at our Headquarters office situated adjacent to the Boise Greenbelt, the MK Nature Center, and Kristin Armstrong Municipal Park in Boise.

Responsibilities

Design, modify, and implement financial accounting systems or has a significant role in their developme Utilize professional background to develop budgetanalysis, create financial reports, and prepare complex financial documents. Supervises three fiscal staff responsible for grant administration and budget analysis, providing feedback, preparing annual evaluations, giving direction, training employees, conducting new hire interviews, etc. Oversees and participates in development of future fiscal year budgets, and maintenance of the current year budget. Develop, maintain, review, and reconcile financial data in the state accounting system Participate in developing policies and procedures for financial reporting systems and conduct research into the financial needs of the agency. Analyze technical financial problems and provide professional assistance and advice concerning their solutions. Utilize information technology to improve processes and build efficiencies. Assists with state and federal audits specific to the areas this position oversees.

Minimum Qualifications:

(All qualifications listed below are required. To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the minimum experience and/or education standards as outlined in each of the typical qualification guidelines. Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices: Typically gained by four or more years of professional work experience as an accountant or equivalent applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) OR an Associate's degree in Accounting AND at least two years of professional work experience such as an accountant or equivalent OR a Bachelor's degree or higher that includes 20 semester hours, or equivalent college coursework in Accounting OR four or more years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) AND at least 12 semester credits in Accounting, to include Intermediate Accounting I and II. Good knowledge of supervisory practices: Typically gained by at least one year of experience performing as a supervisor which required work assignment, direction, and monitoring staff with responsibility (or significant input) into the hiring of employees, preparing performance evaluations, and handling problem-solving procedures OR 8 hours of courses or seminars specifically covering supervisory practices PLUS at least 6 months experience performing as a full supervisor OR completion of at least 6 college credit hours of courses or seminars covering the essential elements of management (planning, organizing, leading and controlling). Experience using personal computers to develop, analyze, and report on financial data: Typically gained by at least two or more years of work experience where using a personal computer to develop, analyze, and report on financial data/documents was a regularly assigned job duty. Experience monitoring/reviewing internal financial controls: Typically gained by at least one year of professional level experience monitoring/reviewing internal financial controls. Experience resolving technical accounting, auditing, or budgeting problems: Typically gained by at least one year of professional level experience resolving technical accounting, auditing, and/or budgeting problems. Experience preparing financial documents for management review: Typically gained by at least one or more years of full-time work experience preparing financial documents for management review. Experience analyzing financial activities and recommending management action: Typically gained by at least one or more years of full-time work experience independently analyzing financial activities and recommending management action as a regularly assigned job duty.

The ideal candidate will have experience gathering data from multiple financial systems, and analyzing, integrating, and validating data for accuracy and experience developing and maintaining a budget in a professional capacity. Additional consideration may be given at the time of interview to candidates who have this training and/or experience.
