Job Description Staff Accountant Title Staff Accountant Location Corporate Dulles, VA Department Finance & Accounting Reports To Accounting Manager Overview The Staff Accountant supports the accounting function for multiple companies and is responsible for preparation, posting of journal entries; maintenance of financial ledgers; reconciliations of accounts; and recording of company activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. This responsibility includes on-going process challenges and identification of improvement opportunities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs general ledger accounting activities including: Reconcile accounts Enter monthly activity as needed Assist with inventory and fixed assets Generating and entering journal entries Bank reconciliation Account roll-forward schedules Intercompany transactions Inventory calculations Performs account analysis and other duties normally associated with a full charge accountant Assists with month end closing of the books and prepares and/or compiles records in support of audits as needed Ensure accounts have appropriate support, reconciliation, etc. Manage intercompany transaction tracking and recording, including intercompany interest on balances Follows accounting policies and established internal controls to ensure that the company's reported financial results comply with U.S. GAAP and other reporting requirements as necessary. Communicates regularly with other departments on accounting matters. Assesses the effectiveness of accounting processes, procedures and controls and makes recommendations to improvement Maintains strong current working knowledge of accounting regulations, rules and principles. Other accounting and administrative duties as required. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or similar business-oriented program CPA or CPA candidate preferred Strong proficiency in Excel functions and formulas and proficiency in other parts of MS Office Strong data collection and processing skills Professional demeanor and ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills Experience with enterprise accounting systems required; some exposure to SAP Business One is ideal Note: Other sections may be added as necessary for the specific position.
