Seeking Tool Maker for direct hire/permanent position with a company located in sought metro area of Minneapolis. PURPOSE This job description is built with the intent of describing the core competencies and requirements of the position. SUMMARY The Grade-A Toolmaker is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and repair of precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing operations. This role requires advanced technical knowledge, extensive experience with precision machining, and the ability to work with complex blueprints and schematics. The Toolmaker will work with various materials and must possess strong problem-solving skills to ensure high-quality products are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner. JOB DESCRIPTION • Create and modify complex tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other specialized equipment used in the stamping process. This includes selecting materials, determining specifications, and creating precise parts to meet tooling requirements. • Use advanced machining tools such as CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, grinders, and surface grinders to fabricate high-precision components. • Interpret detailed technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to ensure that the tools meet exact specifications. • Understanding of tolerances, material properties, and geometric dimensions. • Assemble and test tools, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to company standards. Troubleshooting issues and making necessary adjustments. • Perform regular maintenance on tools and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition. Troubleshoot and repair any malfunctioning tools, ensuring minimal downtime. • Work closely with production teams to develop new methods and improve existing tooling processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality. • Ensure all tools meet the highest standards of quality, conducting thorough inspections using precision measuring instruments. • Collaborate with other departments (such as design, engineering, and production) to meet production schedules and resolve issues related to tooling and equipment. • Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and company guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. • Mentor and train junior toolmakers and machinists, providing guidance on best practices and toolmaking techniques. • Willing to participate in tooling/production meetings to develop production processes. • Performing all duties in a safe manner, complying with the company’s safety rules and regulations. • And all other duties as required in this position. JOB REQUIREMENTS • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or technical school preferred. • Minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience in toolmaking or precision machining, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Experience in creating complex tools and fixtures is required. • Technical Skills: o Advanced proficiency in operating manual and CNC machines (milling machines, lathes, grinders). o Strong understanding of materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes. o Experience with CAD/CAM software and blueprint reading. o Skilled in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMM. • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve complex issues related to tooling and production. • High level of accuracy and precision in all aspects of toolmaking and machining. • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, standing or moving for long periods and handling heavy equipment when necessary. • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and document work processes. • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop less experienced toolmakers and machinists.
