Job Description Summary The Outpatient Neuropsychologist will conduct outpatient comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations on individuals with physical disability due to chronic and traumatic illnesses. The Outpatient Neuropsychologist obtains patient case history and performs neuropsychological evaluations on adult patients referred from a variety of sources across the organization. In order to conduct neuropsychological testing to diagnose and formulate treatment plan, the Neuropsychologist will obtain history from medical documents, collaborate with referring physician and the rehabilitation team, conduct comprehensive evaluations independently and/or with the use of a psychometrist, and review feedback of results. The Outpatient Neuropsychologist will receive academic appointment at Northwestern Medicine – Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department based on academic, research, and clinical experience. Job Description The Outpatient Neuropsychologist will: Conduct clinical assessments through structured interviews of patients, families and other relevant parties to formulate an individualized plan of treatment. Select, administer, interpret and report on results of neuropsychological tests to develop treatment plans, counsel patients and families regarding deficits, diagnose cognitive problems and provide recommendations for remediation. Work closely with neuropsychological team including psychologists/neuropsychologists, psychometrists, and advanced practicum students. Consult with treatment teams regarding psychological and neuropsychological factors that affect implementation of and compliance with treatment, goals and therapeutic relationships. Participate in Psychology Training with Doctoral-Level Advanced Practicum Students, including individual supervision, group supervision, and didactics. Collaborate with others in applied research in the field of rehabilitation, psychology and neuropsychology. Lecture and teach within the organization and at other external professional forums. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Completion of a Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an accredited school of psychology and successful completion of a clinical internship and necessary postdoctoral supervised experience to obtain licensure. Current eligibility for licensure by the State of Illinois. Minimum 2 years of experience in health related clinical environments. Advanced training and certification in rehabilitation psychology and/or neuropsychology desirable to meet this standard. Additional training and experience in neuropsychological assessment defined ideally as Board Certification in Neuropsychology awarded by the American Psychological Association (APA), but minimally as completion of a two year Post Doctorate with a concentration in the area of Neuropsychological Assessment. Knowledge of psychological principles, development, interpersonal dynamics, behavioral modification and other treatment techniques. Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communication with patients, families, physicians, other allied health professionals and organizational administrators. Analytic skills to exercise good judgment and problem-solving in delivery of clinical and administrative services. Knowledge and application of general professional skills for attention to detail, accountability and follow through, flexibility and adaptability to changing work requirements. Working Conditions Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature. Occasional exposure to infectious diseases when working with patients.
