Job Description Summary The Patient Transporter is responsible for the safe and timely transport of SRALab inpatients to and from scheduled appointments to internal departments/clinics within the hospital. Transports inpatients to external appointments at nearby partner hospitals/clinics locally. Compassionately engages and escorts patients and family members. The Patient Transporter is effectively the lone liaison of SRALab for patients and family during the transport sequence. Job Description The Patient Transporter I: For Internal Transport: Rendezvous with nursing/admin staff, patients and family members at designated pick-up/drop-off points to transport Transports patient via wheelchairs, beds, stretchers to appointments internally Actively engages patients and family during transport Ensures proper handoff of patient to appropriate staff at the destination Conducts return transport procedures, confirming proper handoff to nursing unit staff Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following all policies and procedures. For External Transport using a hospital vehicle: Safely escorts wheelchair patients and family through the posted parking garage walkways to the vehicles Safely operates the lift and loads/secures patient and family. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicle Communicates effectively using timely verbal, nonverbal and written communication. Willing adapts to changing work demands and work environment Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Reporting Relationships Reports directly to the Manager, Central Supply & Distribution. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: High School diploma or equivalent required Strong customer skills A valid Illinois driver's license and clean driving record in the state of Illinois is required. Able to safely drive and fully operate an ADA-configured full-size van [Ford E-350] in an enclosed garage environment and dense, urban vehicular traffic. Basic Computer skills Successful completion of transporter orientation Ability to lift 50 lbs. and push/pull 100 lbs. Working Conditions Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
