Fleet Technician Sr Okeechobee Field Station 4179BR Job Description Job Description Performs a wide range of services to diagnose and repair District fleet units at the Okeechobee Field Station including cars, trucks, diesel engines, and small and heavy equipment. Provides technical expertise, direction and leadership to service staff. Displays sound judgment and superior decision-making skills. Candidate should be able to work independently yet collaborate with other technicians and support staff and adhere to all safety and company protocols. This position will have travel requirements throughout the Okeechobee Field Station area of responsibility and a potential for Districtwide travel with majority of services performed in the field. All tools required to perform repairs on District fleet units are provided by the agency. This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing. Work hours are Monday - Thursday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Work Location: Okeechobee Field Station Employment Guidelines (May be filled as Fleet Technician) Fleet Technician Sr.: High School Diploma or GED and 6+ years of experience performing senior level repair work (Required) in servicing, diagnosing and repairing cars, trucks, diesel engines, and equipment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. The hiring range for this position is $62,774.40 to $69,555.20 (based on education and years of relevant work experience). Valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with airbrakes and manual transmission. If selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, District will provide 2 months from date of hire to obtain CDL Learner's Permit and 6 months to obtain CDL. District is willing to pay cost of CDL training program. Fleet Technician: High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of experience in servicing, diagnosing and repairing cars, trucks, diesel engines, and equipment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. The hiring range for this position is $54,620.80 to $63,086.40 (based on education and years of relevant work experience). Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with airbrakes and manual transmission. If selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, District will provide 2 months from date of hire to obtain CDL Learner's Permit and 6 months to obtain CDL. Certifications Fleet Technician, Sr.: Must maintain a total of eight (8) valid ASE certifications between the three (3) specialties listed below. Fleet Technician: Must maintain a total of four (4) valid ASE certifications between the two (2) specialties listed below. Automotive: engine repair, automatic transmission/ transaxle, manual drive train and axle, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/ electronic system, heating and air conditioning, engine performance. Medium/Heavy Truck: gasoline engine, diesel engine, drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/ electronic system, heating and air conditioning, preventative maintenance inspection. Auto Maintenance & Light Repair. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in overhead crane, forklift operations (reevaluation every year), First Aid/CPR/AED (recertification every two years). Physical Requirements/ Working Environment Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Majority of the work will be performed in the field with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions, performing preventative maintenance, responding to mechanical breakdowns, limited work will be performed inside shop with circulating air; some exposure to sun, heat, and rain when performing repairs and maintenance outside the shop. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions. Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
