Volt is immediately hiring a Principal or Senior Engineer, Reactor Thermal Hydraulics for a remote opportunity with an industry leader in their field. In this role you will perform thermal-hydraulic design analyses to support the commercialization of Fuel for use in various types of water-cooled reactors. Ideal candidates will contribute to the development of reactor design and safety application methodologies, the design of thermal-hydraulic experiments, and the analysis of experimental data. Our client is developing an advanced metallic nuclear fuel for use in water-cooled reactors, including in the existing fleet of Nuclear Power Plants and in future water-cooled Small Modular Reactors. As a Principal/Senior Reactor Thermal Hydraulics you wil Contribute to the development of reactor design and safety application methodologies, the design of thermal-hydraulic experiments, and the analysis of experimental data. Perform independent engineering design studies and verifications, and lead design reviews in areas of expertise. Interface with engineering services suppliers to achieve project outcomes and address complex technical issues. Validate engineering computer programs for use with fuel, which includes resolving issues related to modeling bias and uncertainty Participate in the development of reload licensing methodologies and assist in the regulatory review and approval process Develop design procedures and implement processes to support reload licensing activities. Provide technical and project leadership in areas of expertise, and support other functions as needed within the organization. Mentor and train junior/new staff This is a full-time, Direct Hire opportunity. The ideal candidate will have: Principal or Sr. Level Engineer, Reactor Thermal Hydraulics: BS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field 5-14 years relevant experience, or MS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field 4- 12 years relevant experience, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field 3-10 years relevant experience. For exceptional candidates, relevant work experience may substitute for years of experience. Expertise in the design of commercial LWR core and fuel designs, with a strong foundation in two-phase flow and boiling heat transfer fundamentals. Substantial experience in fuel vendor or utility engineering, with a focus on reload engineering and plant licensing basis. Substantial experience in core thermal-hydraulic design, including reload engineering for core operating limits, subchannel analysis, and reactor core and fuel assembly hydraulics. Working knowledge of reactor safety codes, such as the family of RETRAN, RELAP5, and TRAC codes Prior work experience under the quality requirements of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B.
