Our client, a precision aerospace manufacturer, has an immediate need for an experienced Machine Shop Manager, to join our winning team in Newport. Our candidate of choice will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing operations within the machine shop. This includes ensuring that machinists and toolmakers are properly trained and equipped, maintaining efficient production processes, and managing departmental personnel to meet company goals. The role demands active participation in management, continuous communication across departments, and leadership in process improvement, scheduling, and quality assurance. The manager must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office, blueprint reading, and professional communication, while also handling confidential matters with tact and diplomacy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate as an active member of the managing team and the coordinator of all manufacturing functions. Be able to effectively communicate with other management personnel and foremen to assure every aspect regarding manufacturing is being satisfactorily addressed. Provide constant leadership, guidance and direction to subordinates. Assure every aspect related to the manufacturing process is being accurately addressed and improved where needed. Aid in investigating new processes, procedures and equipment that will help optimize the manufacturing process. Determine feasible means of achieving company goals and objectives. Proactively take action to achieve these goals and objectives with a “whatever it takes” attitude and approach. This includes the hiring of needed personnel, researching new technology and optimizing processes and any other instrument that will allow manufacturing to be more efficient. Assure the delivery of raw material to work centers is completed in a timely fashion. Communicate with the Manufacturing Manager, Director of Operations, and Expediter on a regular basis to assure all work centers are properly scheduled to allow for efficient operation. Keep constant daily contact with the Quality Manager and his respective department to ensure manufacturing is producing components, which meet customer requirements without impeding the efficiency of manufacturing. Prepare programs and jobs for Production by reviewing and making changes to router, reviewing and making changes to program, etc. Be the pivotal communication link between manufacturing, tooling, quality, scheduling, shipping and management. Review cycle time with operator at the beginning of production on any job to determine if rate can be met or exceeded. Empower operators by getting them involved. Give them some responsibility and authority over their daily tasks. Duties not necessarily indicated above which arise within operations will accordingly be included in this position, in addition to special assignments from Management. KEY QUALIFICATIONS: 5+ years in machining operations (CNC & manual) 2+ years in a leadership role (preferred) Strong knowledge of tooling, materials, and manufacturing processes. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and scheduling. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T. Lean/5S/Six Sigma experience preferred. Ability to handle sensitive, confidential situations with professionalism, tact and diplomacy Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
