This role will focus on designing and developing large-scale converting and packaging equipment using SolidWorks. The ideal candidate is a skilled designer with hands-on experience, capable of collaborating with engineers, technicians, and builders to deliver practical and manufacturable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies for web handling and converting equipment (unwind/rewind systems, rollers, tension controls, slitting, laminating, etc.).
  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, including assemblies, weldments, and fabrication drawings.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, assembly, and electrical engineering) to create practical, buildable designs.
  • Participate hands-on in prototype builds, equipment assembly, and debugging to validate and improve designs.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and implement design improvements for existing machinery.
  • Support documentation such as BOMs, assembly instructions, and engineering change notices.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field.
  • 3+ years of machine design experience, preferably in web handling, converting, or packaging machinery.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, weldments, drafting).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with machinery, assembly, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, fabrication).
  • Understanding of pneumatics, drives, rollers, and motion systems for web handling applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred
  • Experience with large-scale machinery design and assembly.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
