Overview

Dental Assistant – Location: US-FL-Land O Lakes. Employer: NaphCare. This position is located at the Pasco County Detention Center in Land O Lakes, Florida.

As a Correctional Dental Assistant, you will work alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to incarcerated individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is a priority, you will have a variety of duties. This is a unique position with opportunities to impact a diverse patient population with complex medical and dental needs.

Responsibilities

As a Dental Assistant, your responsibilities include preparing patients for dental procedures, assisting with treatments, and maintaining patient records while protecting the rights, dignity, and health of our patient population. Duties may include and are not limited to:

  • Coordinating dental services and assisting the Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation and supporting the function of the dental department
  • Assisting the Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction or suction
  • Ensuring all dental equipment is properly maintained and the dental suite is clean and well-stocked
  • Sterilizing and disinfecting equipment and tools
  • Assisting in triage, dental sick-call requests, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing other administrative tasks
  • Explaining dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients
  • Taking and developing x-rays, assisting with dental laboratory functions

Qualifications

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Completion of a one or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college
  • Maintain proper training and unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Be able to obtain CPR certification
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and adhere to a Code of Conduct; comply with facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
