TITLE: Substitute Bus Driver
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
SUPERVISES: N/A
TERM: As needed.
JOB GOAL : Substitute Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and school-related activities in the absence of regular route drivers. This position ensures consistent and safe student transportation on an as-needed basis.

JOB GOAL : Substitute Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and school-related activities in the absence of regular route drivers. This position ensures consistent and safe student transportation on an as-needed basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess or be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements
- Pass annual Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
- Pass initial and random drug screenings
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of five (5) years of unrestricted driving experience
- Meet requirements set by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security
- Pass driving and criminal background checks
- Must be at least 25 years of age
- Comply with all Haywood County Schools policies and procedures
- Meet the health and physical standards required for school bus operation
- Operates a school bus safely and in compliance with all local, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations.
- Follows assigned routes and time schedules, which may vary daily.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g., oil, fuel, tires, lights, and doors)
- Maintains student discipline and reports misconduct to the appropriate school administrator.
- Reports any mechanical issues to the transportation department.
- Ensures the bus remains clean and presentable.
- Reports accidents promptly and completes all required documentation.
- Completes required records such as mileage, route directions, and passenger counts when applicable.
- Transports only authorized students and personnel
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
- Conducts a Child Find check at the end of each run.
- Refrains from using profanity or tobacco in any form while on duty.
- Participates in required training and in-service activities.
- Follows all board policies and state laws related to pupil transportation.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation

- Ability to distinguish colors and visual cues
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and traffic patterns
- Moderate to high noise levels
- Possible exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and mechanical vibrations
