Overview
Advanced Practice Nurse - Cardiology (West Roxbury). Full-time position at 40 hours per week within the VA Boston Healthcare System, West Roxbury location.
Responsibilities
- Provide care for Cardiology Structural Heart patients in an outpatient clinic setting.
- Coordinate pre-procedural testing (e.g., CT scans, stress tests, cardiac catheterizations, dental assessments) and liaise with Structural Heart Team members (Cardiac Surgery, Anesthesia, Cardiac Cath Lab OR, ICU staff).
- Admit and discharge patients undergoing structural heart procedures; manage transitions and coordinate with Primary Care Providers, consultants, tele-health, and home care agencies.
- Triage Structural Heart consultations and assess inpatient consultations for Structural Heart Procedures under supervision of a Cardiology Attending.
- Provide guidance and continuity of care for cardiology residents.
- Coordinate tests and procedures for patients evaluated for structural heart procedures (e.g., TAVI, mitral valve disease, paravalvular leaks, left atrial appendage closure).
- Liaise with other specialties to ensure comprehensive patient care; provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive services per Cardiology Section standards.
- Perform history and physical exams, formulate treatment plans, and provide treatments aligned with current cardiology practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Basic Requirements: post-master's certificate or master's/doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner; active NP license; Basic Board Certification in one of the following areas: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP), Acute Care NP (ACNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP), or Gerontology NP (GNP) from a recognized certifying body.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE). Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalency.
- Licensure: Active, current, full NP license to practice in the United States or DC.
- Experience/Grade progression: Nurse II entry level; Nurse III requires additional experience and defined dimensions for clinical practice, outcomes, leadership, professional development, and professionalism. See official qualification standards for details.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed when necessary per VA policy.
- All applicants selected for VA employment in designated positions are subject to urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- English language proficiency required for direct patient care positions.
- Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Subject to background/security investigation and online onboarding requirements.
- Pre-employment physical examination; seasonal influenza vaccination program participation required.
Note: This position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status. The health-related positions in VA are covered by Title 38 and are not covered by Schedule A.
