Overview
Associate Director for Digital Asset Management at the John Carter Brown Library (Brown University) working with JCB staff and external contractors to implement the Librarys digital strategy and manage the JCBs digital assets and environment for collections and exhibitions. The Library maintains a significant collection relating to the history of the early Americas, with a focus on printed books, maps, and prints. The Library is committed to full digitization of its collection, and its Americana platform aims to be a leading example of synthesized digital content. This role requires skill, expertise, and experience in both scholarly and technical contexts, and involves responsibility for sensitive projects with both scholarly and public audiences.
Responsibilities
- Implement the John Carter Brown Librarys digital strategy and manage the Librarys digital assets and environment for collections and exhibitions.
- Collaborate with JCB staff and external contractors on digitization, platform development, and digital content delivery.
- Support the governance, security, and accessibility of digital assets and the Americana platform.
- Contribute to scholarly and public-facing digital projects and exhibits.
Education and Experience
- Minimum requirements: MLIS or PhD in a relevant field.
- At least 2 years of experience in digital humanities and/or libraries, with experience in digital materials of the early Americas, history and bibliography strongly preferred.
- At least 2 years of platform development and management experience with asset integration and design experience preferred.
- In addition to English, proficiency in a European or Indigenous language of the early Americas is preferred.
Job Competencies
- Experience with digital humanities and libraries processes and software, including project management (Miro preferred), development (Python), and library systems (Alma).
- Experience collaborating with external contractors for design and development.
- Knowledge of the history of the early Americas.
- Knowledge of the multilingual nature of the JCBs collections and constituency.
- Ability to work productively and collegially in a diverse workplace.
