Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with minimum supervision. Able to triage safely, rapidly, and accurately based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow. Communicates with physicians and/or mid-level providers about changes in patient status, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Works cooperatively with patients, families, physicians, mid-level providers, allied health staff, and healthcare professionals. Gives direction to emergency department techs, registration staff, and allied health staff. Receives direction from the department director, physicians, mid-level providers, and director of nursing. Shifts include 3 x 12 hours, primarily during the 11 am to 11 pm timeframe, including some weekends. Knowledge of emergency department nursing principles and procedures is required. Basic office skills and computer knowledge are essential. IV skills and the ability to operate manual and electronic medical equipment are necessary. Strong assessment skills are crucial.
