Overview Program Director

The

Program Director

provides strategic leadership and oversight for all of Lyrik’s Institution’s programs, ensuring they effectively serve at-risk youth aged 13–25. This senior role is responsible for directing program vision, supervising and developing staff, managing budgets, building strategic partnerships, and ensuring program excellence. The Program Director is both a visionary and a hands-on leader, aligning program objectives with organizational goals while driving innovation, sustainability, and measurable community impact.

Responsibilities 1. Strategic Program Leadership

Lead the design, planning, and implementation of programs in alignment with Lyrik’s Institution’s mission and long-term strategy.

Establish clear goals, performance benchmarks, and growth strategies for all programs.

Ensure programs adapt to evolving community needs and emerging best practices in youth development and violence prevention.

2. Staff Leadership and Development

Supervise, mentor, and evaluate program managers, case managers, and culture coaches.

Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.

Provide coaching and training to strengthen team capacity and performance.

3. Stakeholder & Community Engagement

Build and sustain strong partnerships with schools, courts, community organizations, and local government.

Serve as a primary representative of Lyrik’s Institution in public forums, media opportunities, and community events.

Collaborate with donors, funders, and partners to communicate program impact and foster investment.

4. Program Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

Develop and oversee systems to track program outcomes and performance metrics.

Regularly assess program effectiveness and lead continuous improvement efforts.

Prepare comprehensive reports for the Executive Director, board members, and funding agencies.

5. Financial & Resource Management

Collaborate with the Executive Director and finance team to create and manage program budgets.

Ensure fiscal accountability and compliance with funding requirements.

Identify and pursue funding opportunities, assisting with grant development and reporting.

6. Innovation & Growth

Drive long-term program development, identifying service gaps and introducing innovative solutions.

Stay informed on trends and best practices in youth intervention, education, and community violence prevention.

Position Lyrik’s Institution as a model of excellence and a thought leader in the field.

7. Crisis Oversight & Risk Management

Provide leadership in crisis situations, supporting staff to ensure participant safety and proper response.

Act as the escalation point for complex issues and ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution.

Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Nonprofit Management, Criminal Justice, or related field required.

Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Experience

Minimum 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit program management, youth development, or social services.

Demonstrated success managing teams, overseeing multiple programs, and achieving measurable outcomes.

Skills & Competencies

Visionary leadership and strong strategic planning ability.

Exceptional communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills.

Deep knowledge of trauma-informed care, youth intervention, and community-based practices.

Strong budget management, grant writing, and reporting skills.

Ability to balance big-picture strategy with hands-on operational leadership.

Direct Experience

Direct experience working with at-risk youth and justice-involved populations.

Established connections within Kansas City’s nonprofit, education, and justice communities.

Proven ability to secure and manage diverse funding streams.

Work Environment

Hybrid role with office-based, fieldwork, and occasional remote opportunities.

Flexibility to work evenings or weekends based on program and community needs.

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel regularly to program sites, schools, and partner locations.

Occasional lifting or transporting of materials for events or activities.
