Job Posting: Senior Planner, Supply Chain
Location : Oak Brook, IL
Schedule : 8 AM – 4:15 PM
Status: Salaried, Exempt
About the Role:
The Senior Planner, Supply Chain will play a critical role in managing end-to-end supply planning processes for finished goods (FG) and work-in-process (WIP) in a dynamic OTC and cosmetic manufacturing environment. This role requires deep expertise in Master Production Scheduling (MPS) and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) concepts, strong cross-functional collaboration skills, and a proactive mindset to drive inventory optimization, minimize obsolescence, and ensure high service levels. As a key member of the Supply Chain team, this role offers direct visibility to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence strategic planning decisions.
Key Job Responsibilities
Master Production Scheduling:
Develop and maintain Master Production Schedules (MPS) for finished goods and WIP using SAP PP/DS and SAP IBP. Leverage SAP PP/DS and SAP IBP to run planning simulations, assess scenarios, and support decision-making.
Inventory Management:
Monitor and manage inventory targets across multiple product categories; optimize safety stock, reorder points, and lot sizing to reduce carrying costs and minimize stockouts. Support inventory health initiatives, including aging inventory analysis, excess/obsolete reporting, and write-off prevention strategies.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with purchasing, quality, production, customer service, distribution, and finance to ensure seamless execution of supply chain plans.
Risk Management:
Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve shortages, supply bottlenecks, and capacity constraints. Communicate planning results and risks to executive stakeholders, providing actionable insights and recovery plans when needed.
New Product Development:
Lead cross-functional planning for new product launches, ensuring timely availability of materials, production capacity, and distribution readiness.
Business Metrics:
Responsible for tracking and improving a range of metrics and KPIs related to inventory health, planning accuracy, and operational efficiency. Generate regular KPIs and reports to evaluate supply chain performance and drive continuous improvement.
Meeting Facilitation:
Lead the daily order status meeting, highlighting issues to drive urgency and prioritization on items needed for customer orders. Lead the monthly production planning meeting to identify concerns, discuss, and develop action plans to address supply and demand imbalances.
Participate in SAP S/4HANA and SAP IBP system enhancements, UAT testing, and process documentation related to planning modules.
Maintain SAP S/4HANA master data for supply planning. Add new items to SAP master data as needed.
Train and mentor other planners and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required by the Vice President, Supply Chain Operations.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related field; or its equivalent in training and experience is required.
APICS CPIM or CSCP certification, or SAP planning certification is .
The knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired in 5 to 8 years of experience within a consumer goods manufacturing environment, preferably in OTC or cosmetics.
Experience with S&OP or IBP processes.
SAP S/4HANA ERP and SAP IBP system experience is .
Working knowledge of FDA, cGMP and/or other regulations relevant to production and distribution.
Advanced Excel skills; ability to work with large datasets and complex formulas.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, including working directly with senior leadership.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
A broad understanding of general production and manufacturing practices.
Must be computer literate in a MS Windows environment (i.e., Word, Excel/Spreadsheets, but not limited to).
Additional Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must possess good judgment, analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently on a multitude of concurrent tasks.
Ability to prepare detailed and accurate documentation.
Good math aptitude.
Good organizational ability.

Must possess the ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with internal and external customers, function as a team player, accept constructive criticism from management and comply with Company policies.

Compensation
The base pay for this position ranges from $85,000 to $115,000. Pay is based on a number of factors including job related knowledge, skills and experience. The job role is eligible for a discretionary bonus that may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
