Journeyman Fiber Technician
to join our growing team.
Position Summary:
The Journeyman Fiber Technician is responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic cable systems in both underground and aerial environments. This position requires extensive travel and the ability to work in a fast-paced field setting while adhering to safety and quality standards.
What You'll Do Key Responsibilities:
Perform fusion splicing and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables
Test and troubleshoot fiber using OTDR, power meters, and other diagnostic equipment
Interpret splicing diagrams, network maps, and construction drawings
Install enclosures, patch panels, and other fiber infrastructure components
Lead and mentor subordinates on job sites
Maintain daily job logs and documentation for splicing and testing
Collaborate with project managers and other trades to ensure project timelines are met
Adhere to safety standards and company policies on every job site
Travel frequently for project assignments, including overnight stays as needed
What You'll Bring Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing
Strong knowledge of fiber types, color codes, and industry standards
Proficiency with fiber testing equipment (OTDR, power meters, VFLs)
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Willingness to travel and work in outdoor conditions year-round
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights or in confined spaces
Strong attention to detail, work ethic, and commitment to safety
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid certifications
CDL or willingness to obtain one
Experience in both underground and aerial fiber construction
Leadership experience or ability to lead small crews
Familiarity with GIS tools and digital job tracking apps (e.g., iPads, tablets)
