The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine seeks an innovative, strategic leader to join us as the next Assistant or Associate Dean of Faculty Development. This role is pivotal in advancing our mission through faculty development programs that encompass education, research, and service delivery, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence among faculty. The Assistant/Associate Dean for Faculty Development is a key member of the Office of Institutional and Faculty Affairs leadership team, reporting to the Senior Associate Dean responsible for that office (SADIFA). This individual is expected to provide visionary leadership to strengthen UNR Med's academic programs, with a focus on the professional development of faculty. These programs align with the UNR Med institutional mission and strategic plan 2024-29 and UNR's Wolf Pack Rising, supporting faculty development across the continuum of medical education to enhance UNR Med's reach, impact, and reputation. The Assistant/Associate Dean collaborates closely with the SADIFA, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Senior Associate Dean for Biomedical Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Research, Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, Department Chairs, and other leaders at UNR Med, UNR and our major affiliate partners including Renown Health and the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care system. Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategy:

Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of faculty development programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and strategic plans. Faculty Support and Development:

Foster a culture of continuous learning and engagement, providing resources and training for faculty in both physical and digital settings. Support faculty in creating portfolios for retention, promotion, and tenure. Retention of Faculty:

Assist in efforts for faculty retention by collaborating with the SADIFA and the Associate Dean of Wellness to promote programs that create community for faculty. Provide special focus on faculty populations noted at high risk to leave academic medicine. Mentoring:

Organize and manage mentoring programs, facilitating peer sharing of best practices. Collaboration and Representation:

Collaborate with key stakeholders, including the leadership of Undergraduate Medical Education, Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Medical Education, to align curriculum, policy, and administration initiatives. Represent faculty development interests at academic advisory council meetings, including the UNR Med Faculty Council and work across the UNR campus and its multiple colleges and schools. Program Evaluation and Improvement:

Liaise with leaders in faculty instructional evaluation processes, offering training and workshops to enhance teaching effectiveness. Identify and address faculty development needs through data-driven insights and reporting. Faculty Development Initiatives:

In addition to previous sections, the Assistant/Associate Dean for Faculty Development is expected to enhance faculty wellbeing through mentoring programs and develop faculty rewards and recognition programs; administer selection processes and funding support for professional development programs and develop and facilitate orientation programs for junior faculty to support career growth and retention. Additional Academic Duties:

0.50 FTE of this role will be allocated to perform academic functions such as clinical service or research. The academic home (department) for this role will be determined by the specialty and/or research portfolio of the successful candidate. Clinical service will be performed in affiliation with one of UNR Med's partner institutions Renown, Veteran's Administration Hospital, or the local emergency medicine or anesthesiology groups. Research activity will take place within and with the support of one of UNR Med's Biomedical Science departments. Required Qualifications: MD, PhD, MD-PhD or other relevant doctoral terminal degree Experience in faculty development and medical-education administration in an allopathic medical school Experience with multimodal learning techniques and adult learning styles Record of successful faculty development initiatives/programs Familiarity with promotion and tenure requirements as they apply to clinicians The ideal candidate excels at creating scalable innovative, inclusive programs and prioritizing resources strategically while incorporating data derived from assessment, strategic goals and initiatives, institutional needs, and faculty development best practices. Collaboration, transparent and diplomatic communication, and the experience to lead and drive change positively will be integral to success in the role.
