Overview The Executive Director of GW Hillel will lead one of the nation's oldest and most politically engaged Jewish campus communities, serving over 4,500 Jewish students just blocks from the White House in Washington, DC. This location places GW Hillel at the intersection of Jewish communal life and national and international political discourse, requiring navigation of complex situations that impact GW’s campuses and beyond. You will work with student leaders, staff, a Board of Directors, university and community partners, and a broad alumni network to advance GW Hillel's mission where Jewish identity, Israel advocacy, and campus activism intersect with federal policy and media attention. This role requires strategic leadership, vision-setting, organizational culture development, administrative excellence, and serving as the primary voice of Jewish life on GW’s campuses and within Washington's Jewish community network.
What You’ll Do
Strategy & Vision: Inspire and lead a pluralistic, diverse Jewish life on campus. Develop and implement an intentional strategic direction and programs that align with the mission and vision, engage the Board and partners, and are educationally grounded. Integrate Jewish wisdom and education into all aspects of GW Hillel using Hillel International’s guidelines and insights from key partners. Develop strategies to expand the Jewish student community and connect with other relevant Jewish organizations. In partnership with GW leaders, manage university crises as they relate to the Jewish student community with a clear understanding of broader campus impact and ensure Jewish life is valued and integrated.
Fundraising and Financial Management: Envision, sustain, and expand GW Hillel’s fundraising campaigns, including building endowments to support long-term priorities. Oversee annual development plans, stewardship of gifts, donor relationships, and personally engage in fundraising with major donors and grant organizations, supporting the Board in this effort. Develop additional revenue sources.
Operations, Staff & Board Management: Oversee the Gewirz Center operations in collaboration with the Director of Finance and Operations and campus partners. Inspire, develop, supervise, and mentor a professional staff team focused on pluralism, inclusivity, student leadership, and Jewish life. Foster a positive work environment and effective delegation. Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and GW Hillel.
Stakeholder & External Relations: Serve as GW Hillel’s primary spokesperson to constituents, the media, and the public. Cultivate relationships with the Board, student and university leaders, Jewish community leaders, alumni, and families nationwide.
Engagement & Relationship Building: Define and implement a robust student engagement strategy; adapt to changing needs of Jewish college students; provide mentorship to support Jewish journeys; ensure a supportive space addressing antisemitism and antisemitic/anti-Israel activity; build partnerships with campus and community organizations; honor diverse expressions of Jewish practice; engage parents and families as trusted resources.
What You’ve Accomplished
A minimum of 8 years of leadership experience with staff management responsibilities.
5+ years in the Jewish or secular nonprofit, higher education, or mission-driven sectors (preferred).
5+ years of fundraising and financial management experience in a nonprofit setting.
Past Hillel management experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

Competitive salary range: $150,000 - $180,000, depending on skills and experience.
