Overview
Volunteer Opportunities Available with Alternative Family Services (AFS). AFS is a Foster Family, Adoption and Mental Health Agency serving abused and neglected children since 1973. We support vulnerable children and families with foster, adoption, mental health and transition-aged youth services in English and Spanish, with eight locations in the Bay Area and 200 staff. We celebrate diversity, equal opportunity, and excellence. Volunteer Opportunities Join our team as an AFS HEART Society Ambassador. Working with the Director of Resource Development, HEART Society Volunteers help increase community engagement and awareness of AFS programs, fundraising campaigns, and initiatives to support children, teens, and young adults in foster care. Responsibilities
Organize and participate in fundraising events Volunteer in various AFS activities Advocate for policies and initiatives that benefit foster youth and families Host educational and awareness-building events Support AFS campaigns, such as Foster Joy, through outreach and promotion Attend key fundraising events and quarterly meetings to plan and coordinate activities What we are looking for
An interest in nonprofits A commitment to supporting the mission and values of Alternative Family Services (AFS) A willingness to engage in volunteer and promotion activities, fundraising, and advocacy The ability to dedicate time and resources (approximately 3-5 hours a month) to support the HEART Society initiatives Who should join us
Individuals passionate about foster care, adoption, mental health, social justice, and family support services Individuals passionate about supporting vulnerable children and families and their local communities Driving requirements
Some volunteer opportunities require Ambassadors to volunteer in the community (e.g., supporting at events). A valid CA driver’s license and valid automobile insurance with the volunteer's name on the policy are required at all times. Learn more and apply
