JOB SUMMARY:
The Food Safety and Quality Officer is the quality advocate and driver for the plant, providing leadership for the quality and food safety audits, systems and programs. This position is responsible for developing, establishing and maintaining the quality systems needed for manufacturing in a food processing plant. Candidate will oversee and implement overall product safety, quality and regulatory compliance for the manufacturing plant. This includes managing all Good Manufacturing, Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory Compliance programs within the plant to uphold Omega Protein, Inc and GFSI standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assure compliance, maintain and improve upon programs and policies relevant to all third party, customer, and company quality and food safety policies.
Ensure that external and internal audits are conducted according to schedule and that non-conformances are corrected in an effective and timely manner.
Responsible for following, promoting and enforcing food safety practices and food defense within the facility. This includes ensuring organizational support to achieve and maintain annual Food Safety certifications. Responsible for verifying and validating the GFSI systems and all changes.
Maintain overall responsibility for internal and GFSI audits, site Food Safety Plan, compliance of all Corporate Quality Procedures/Policies, and FSMA Standards by monitoring and spot-checking logs, records, etc. Coordinate and verify GMP Food Safety Inspection Audits are completed each month and results are distributed to all departments.
Responsible for oversight of multiple quality management systems including CAPA, complaints, training, non-conforming materials, hold log, and pest management.
Champions the effective resolution of customer and internal quality concerns.
Review customer feedback and respond to complaints and questionnaires.
Develops and conducts training for site staff and new hires.
Conduct review of pest control records. Identify and communicate issues and/or deficiencies.
Manage team of Quality Scientists and provide back up and assistance as needed for laboratory testing.
Review and approve process, test method and equipment verification and validation protocols and reports, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor’s Degree is required (Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or other related technical degrees )
HACCP, PCQI, GFSI experience and certification
Working knowledge of FDA regulations, including cGMPS and FSMA
