This role supports that mission by shaping interpretive content for visitors. Schedule

Full Time, 35 hours/week, at least three days onsite. This position reports to the Manager of Interpretation. Responsibilities & Duties

Edit in-gallery interpretive materials and manage collection rotations. This includes brochures, handouts, text panels, object labels, and interactive media; schedule, copyedit, and proofread manuscripts and galleys. Develop, edit, and proofread interpretive text content for digital platforms. Maintain the house editorial style guide and coordinate updates with staff across Publications, Curatorial, Conservation, and Collections Information & Access. Provide production and editorial support for gallery text and signage for collection rotations and exhibitions; help department managers meet schedule, budget, quality, and content requirements. Obtain reproductions and permissions for interpretive and didactic displays, including researching copyright holders and image providers and processing invoices. Coordinate work of contractors (designers, editors, translators, etc.) within established editorial and production schedules. Provide editorial support by fact-checking, formatting texts, and proofreading layouts; ensure alignment with interpretive information hierarchies and other duties as assigned. Package and prepare texts and images for accessibility partners, supporting visual descriptions for gallery content. Organize material routing for approvals and obtain timely approvals from appropriate staff. Obtain final design files, create master archives, and prepare PDFs for each exhibition; extract and reformat text as needed. Participate in interpretive planning discussions to ensure cohesion across interpretation modes and multimedia in-gallery affordances. Provide general organizational and administrative support for signage workflows. Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in art history, English, journalism, or related field; coursework in modern and contemporary art is desirable. Minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience, including copyediting, proofreading, and project management. Strong organizational, communication, writing, editorial, and project management skills. Familiarity with modern and contemporary art history and art terminology. Working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop and InDesign) and HTML is a plus. Ability to work independently, set priorities, interact effectively with artists and Museum staff, maintain accuracy while meeting deadlines, and juggle multiple projects. Ability to adapt quickly to time-sensitive projects or changing procedures. Competence in at least one foreign language is desirable. Compensation: $35.16 - $42.20 an hour. This is a union position subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Additional Details
