Overview
Talent Acquisition Specialist / Catholic Charities Community Services This position is under contract with the New York State Office of New Americans (ONA) and provides direct legal services to residents of Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties and support to ONA Opportunity Centers in that service region. This description reflects the contract referenced herein. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Advise, counsel and represent individuals in general immigrant and non-immigrant status matters, including family reunification (adjustment of status), visa extension and change of status, religious worker, naturalization, green card extension, travel/advance parole, consular processing, and relief under NACARA, HRIFA, Cuban Adjustment Act, etc. Advise, counsel and represent individuals in specialized and complex immigration applications, including special juvenile immigrant petitions, VAWA petitions, U visa and T visa applications, deferred action, and inadmissibility waivers. Advise, counsel and represent individuals facing removal proceedings, including cancellation of removal, asylum, bond hearings and post-order relief. Provide support to ONA Opportunity Centers in Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties, including bi-monthly consultation days, urgent referrals, and responses to immigration law questions. Provide trainings, community information sessions and Know-Your-Rights workshops; participate in legal clinics. Maintain and update case files and case management databases. Compile monthly statistics and reports. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
The position requires providing services throughout Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties, at ONA Opportunity Centers, CCCS offices, and in immigration and family courts. An office may also be available at CCCS’ Bronx Center. Willingness to travel throughout the service region is required. Days and hours are generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Additional evening or weekend hours may be required to meet court and program deadlines or client needs. Working conditions and physical demands
Travel at least 20% of the time using public transportation or vehicle; navigate city streets, stairs, and varying weather conditions. Remain stationary at a workstation, in court or meetings, and use a computer for at least 75% of the time. Instruct and monitor trainings and presentations, potentially including travel to offsite locations. Carry a laptop to offsite work locations. Qualifications
Education and/or experience required: Juris Doctor. Admission to a state bar and/or the District of Columbia; admission to the New York bar preferred. Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required: Bilingual in English and another language. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and computer skills. Experience delivering public presentations to diverse communities and stakeholders. Ability and experience working with diverse individuals and communities. Valid driver’s license.
