Overview
Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Fluid Systems – Long Beach, California, United States Vast is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Fluid Systems to support the development of the systems required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This role reports to the Manager of Tube Fabrication and involves collaboration with design and integration engineers, production teams, and external vendors to enable efficient, high-quality manufacturing for Haven-1. This is a full-time, exempt position located in Long Beach. Responsibilities
Conceptualize, develop, and manufacture innovative tube bending and welding cells capable of meeting Haven-1 program needs. Drive first build and test through design integration, assembly sequencing, mBOM development, build and test work order creation, and specification authoring. Create and maintain detailed manufacturing plans, assembly procedures, and work instructions to ensure consistent, accurate production of all tubing systems. Identify and resolve manufacturing challenges by conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions. Apply critical thinking to push for efficient production within timelines for human space flight. Collaborate with design and integration engineers, internal production teams, and external vendors for expedient execution. Create tooling solutions to streamline production and increase system output while reducing operational burden. Collaborate with quality assurance to establish and maintain rigorous quality control processes for manufacturing. Establish and enforce standard practices, troubleshooting guides, and standardized repair procedures; review and approve planning documents. Support day-to-day production of bent tubes, OTW, and manual welded tubing with emphasis on efficiency and quality. Challenge existing production and design requirements for tubing assemblies, using data-driven insights to reduce waste and optimize manufacturing. Identify opportunities to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality across production systems. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience (internships/extracurricular experience applicable), preferably in aerospace. Preferred Skills & Experience
Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teams. High attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work. Ability to work in a rapidly changing, high-stress environment balancing multiple projects. Strong understanding of fluid systems. Experience with tube bending, orbital tube welding (OTW), TIG welding, precision cleaning, tooling design, and/or pressure testing. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis. Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting fluid components and systems is desirable. Additional Requirements
Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones. Pay Range
Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Fluid Systems L3: $120,000-$160,000 Compensation and Benefits
Base salary will vary based on knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand.
