The IRS is hiring entry-level Contact Representatives for our call site in Ogden, UT. Responsibilities WHAT IS THE TAXPAYER SERVICES DIVISION? A description of the business units can be found at: https://www.jobs.irs.gov/about/who/business-divisions Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Accounts Management The following are the duties of this position at the full working level: Communicates with individual taxpayers, their representatives, professional stakeholders, and other government officials. Uses sophisticated interviewing techniques, to review individual circumstances and goals, and advises on the most advantageous ways to meet them. Explains what future actions are necessary for compliance by advising on tax liability. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-08, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-08 in as little as three years. These are TERM positions which are one-year initial appointments that may be extended up to four (4) years, in one-year increments. Employees may be eligible for conversion to permanent career or career-conditional appointments via internal vacancy announcements if the following are applicable: Employee completed two years of current continuous service under a term appointment or any combination of term appointments in the competitive service at the time of conversion. The permanent appointment may be made only to a position in the same line of work as the position for which the employee received a term appointment under competitive procedures. The employee's performance under the term appointment must be rated at the fully successful level or higher. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification. If you are not in compliance, you will be determined unsuitable for employment with IRS. This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Qualifications Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5 Level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that may have been gained in work with records, documents or financial accounts which involved applying established rules and procedures or experience gained through work in positions that involved frequent contact with the public researching and responding to non-routine requests for information orally or in writing. The following are examples of specialized experience that may be qualifying and are not all inclusive. Applying laws, rules or regulations and written guidelines; Experience gained in an environment conducting face to face and/or telephone interviews (e.g., collection agency, telemarketing, customer service, sales) resolving problems and issues; Negotiating with others to resolve issues; Performing administrative and technical procedures using a computer to locate and review records and reconcile discrepancies; Experience working with records or financial accounts applying established rules and procedures (e.g., basic accounting, credits and debits, researching and/or adjusting accounts). OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: completed at least 4 years of education above the high school level leading to a Bachelor's degree (120 semester hours, 180 quarter hours or 2880 formal classroom hours) or a Bachelors or higher degree. OR You may qualify with a combination of experience and education equivalent to one (1) year of specialized experience. Education For positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Additional Information As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period (unless already completed) during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Employees who work a seasonal work schedule are placed in non-pay status or recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement. Tour of Duty: The Ogden, UT location is offering Day Shift Tours of Duty with start times ranging between 7:00 AM and 9:30 AM and Mid Shift Tours of Duty with start times ranging between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Shift Work: Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. Shifts may vary and will be assigned upon selection. While your shift will be assigned upon selection, your actual TOD on the selected shift will be assigned upon completion of training.
