Overview

Manager Nursing - Labor and Delivery @ Swedish First Hill Day Shift. Hiring Bonus and relocation for eligible external candidates who meet all conditions for payment. The manager is accountable for the overall management and leadership of a unit or a group of patient care units within Nursing Services. The manager is responsible for all clinical and operational activities of the units in accordance with Swedish Medical Center's mission, vision, and values. Swedish First Hill Campus, located on the hill just above downtown Seattle, serves a diverse patient population with diverse provider and caregiver teams, fostering a collaborative environment. Department Overview

Labor and Delivery: 30 labor beds OB ED: 9 beds total OB ORs: 4 operating rooms Births: Approximately 550-600 per month Deliveries: Starting from 22-23 weeks gestation NICU: Level 4 with 77 beds Teams: Includes MFM team, Midwifery, OB, Family Medicine Programs: Addiction Recovery program for pregnant/laboring patients and postpartum couplets, Doula and Cultural Navigators 24/7 Services: Anesthesia, Laborist, and Neonatology 5 EAST Main L&D Unit: 6 bed OB ED, 14 labor rooms, 2 ORs, Charge RN, and Laborist 5 South: Scheduled C-sections, overflow labor, occasional Antepartum or Postpartum overflow, Charge RN

Responsibilities

Accountable for ensuring the provision of patient care 24 hours a day. Accountable for assigned clinical operations and coordinating patient care delivery daily in collaboration with the health care team. Ensures patient care is delivered in accordance with professional, regulatory, and medical center standards. Establishes and enforces standards of patient care and nursing practice in areas of responsibility. Develops, implements, and monitors unit-based quality improvement programs and unit-based goals for quality patient care. Ensures compliance with department standards by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care and outcomes. Ensures appropriate patient care based on assignments, evaluates patient care and patient/family satisfaction, and conducts rounds to intervene as needed. Acts as patient advocate to clarify ethical/legal issues and supports cultural practices. Assumes accountability for staff retention by monitoring turnover and actively reducing it across staff categories. Demonstrates clinical competence by assisting with patient care to maintain skills and by coaching, developing, evaluating, and advocating for staff across shifts. Collaborates with the CNS and/or clinical educator to identify, plan, and implement educational programs for the service and staff at all levels. Addresses grievances up to step-two when they arise.

Leadership Qualities And Job Requirements

We are looking for an engaged, personable, and collaborative leader within the L&D and Women & Children leadership teams. The role shares responsibility for quality, finance, staffing, and patient/caregiver experience. This position reports to the Senior L&D Manager. The senior manager, manager, and clinical supervisor work together to run the department. Top Priorities and Goals

Advance culture work related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for patients, caregivers, and providers, including TEAMBirth and Doula/Cultural Navigator programs. Emphasize quality metrics (e.g., NTSV) and collaborate with the RN team for sustained improvement. Partner with CNS, Perinatal Educator, and team on evidence-based practice changes. Interview and hire experienced staff RNs, travel nurses, and candidates for residency/fellowship programs in L&D.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in BSN from an accredited nursing program, or ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within two years of hire. Washington Registered Nurse License at hire. National Provider BLS - American Heart Association at hire. 3 years of recent experience in a related clinical nursing area. Must meet criteria of Registered Nurse.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Nursing or related field. 1 year first-line management experience.
